ICON OF ST DOMINIC

December 6th 2019

Dominic is shown holding the Gospel of St Matthew and a white lily, indicating the resurrection within its trinitarian structures. He is also shown with the flame, this indicates both the Holy Spirit and the flame in his mother’s vision, when she dreamed of the hound of God with a lit torch in its mouth setting light to the world. The star on his forehead is linked to his baptism event. Like the saints in the other icons, the simple black and white garments are touched with a celestial blue.
