800TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DOMINICAN ORDER IN BRITAIN

May 14th 2021

This year our Dominican Province celebrates 800 years since the Order came to these shores. On 15th August 1221 our first house was established in Oxford. This was also the year that St Dominic died.  From Pentecost 2021 until the Feast of the Translation of St Dominic 2022  there will be a series of events to mark this year of Jubilee.  You can find out more and see a list of planned events on the Province website at

https://www.english.op.org/2021

In preparation for the Jubilee, the  friars of this Province  are saying a Novena to the Holy Spirit between Ascension and Pentecost.  In Edinburgh the Novena Prayer will be said at the end of the live-streamed Mass.  You can find the text of the prayer   Please join us in praying this novena.

NOVENA TO THE HOLY SPIRIT IN PREPARATION

FOR THE JUBILEE 800  (14-22 May 2021)

V. A pure heart create for me, O God.

R. And put a steadfast spirit within me.
V. Do not cast me away from your presence.

R. Nor deprive me of your Holy Spirit.
V. Give me again the joy of your help.

R. And with a spirit of fervour sustain me.

Let us pray.

O God, who sanctify your universal Church in every people and nation, pour out, we pray, the gifts of your Spirit across the face of the earth, so that your divine grace, which was at work when the Gospel was first proclaimed, may now spread through the hearts of those who believe in you.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Lady, Spouse of the Holy Spirit, pray for us.
St. Dominic, pray for us.
