This conference offers participants an opportunity to explore what lies at the heart of being a Dominican. We Dominicans will explain ourselves by giving an account of what we have done, what we are doing currently and what we could do in the future. Our speakers include Fr Timothy Radcliffe, OP, Fr Richard Finn, OP, and our own Fr Fergus Kerr, OP as well as other Friars, Sisters and Lay Dominicans. The conference will end with a joint response from a group, comprising young friars, Sisters and Lay Dominicans.
Proceedings begin with a welcome event at 6pm on 23rd June in the Assembly Hall, New College at which Fr Dermot Morrin OP, Superior at St Albert’s, and our Provincial Fr Martin Ganeri OP will speak. This will be followed by dinner at nearby St Columba’s by the Castle at 7pm. There is no charge for this event but donations to cover catering costs from those who can afford to give are welcomed.
On Saturday the morning will be given over to looking to the past to see where we have come from. We move to St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral for Mass celebrated by His Grace, Archbishop Leo Cushley at which Fr Timothy Radcliffe OP will preach. This will be followed by a light lunch at the Cathedral. Again donations to cover this cost are welcomed. At 2pm we continue at New College and look to the present with contributions from the Prior of Blackfriars Oxford, the Dominican Missionary Sisters, The Sisters of St Cecilia and the President of the Lay Dominicans in the UK. Lastly we look to the future. Fr Timothy Radcliffe OP will speak on “Preaching and Imagination”. There will be a joint response to this talk and the conference from a panel of young Dominicans comprised of friars, sisters and laity.
